Vehicle condition fines

What the schedule charges for the state of the vehicle itself. Some of these rows carry an impound period out of proportion to the fine, which is exactly why the two are always shown together on this site.

What the law does not say

Two rows here share one fine and carry different points

The seatbelt row and the helmet row each state two lettered sub-parts — the driver or rider, and the passenger — priced at a single merged fine cell shared by both. The points cells are not shared: the driver sub-part carries a point count and the passenger sub-part’s points cell is a dash. On this site that dash renders as “not stated”, never as a blank cell and never as zero. One amount, two different point values, one annex row number — which is why each appears as its own row here with the sub-part labelled.

Every description here is our own English gloss

The federal schedule is written in Arabic, and this site does not publish an official or certified translation of it. The description column is our own plain-terms gloss of what each row covers, marked as one on every row; 16 of 122 of them are the wording the rate payload itself carries and the rest are written for this site. The figures beside them — the fine, the black points, the impound period — are the language-independent facts, and they are what the citation under this table is a citation to. Where a gloss and your notice disagree, the notice is the document that binds.

MR 178/2017 issue 613, 30 Mar 2017, annex pp.6-18, consolidated to 02 May 2023 · in force 2023-05-022027-08-07

Background

The condition of the vehicle, priced separately from the driving

These rows penalise the state of the vehicle and the equipment in it rather than any manoeuvre. That makes them easy to underestimate, and the impound column is the reason not to: several rows here attach a vehicle impound to a comparatively small fine, which is precisely why this site never prints a fine without the other two columns beside it.

Where a row states no points or no impound period, that cell reads as not stated on this site rather than as zero. The annex leaves cells genuinely empty in places, and the difference between "the schedule attaches none" and "the schedule does not say" is a difference a reference is obliged to keep.

Where these figures stand

Draft for review. Every figure on this site is transcribed from a named primary instrument and carries its citation, but none has been signed off by a reviewer of record yet — and a very recent amendment may not be reflected. Where the law itself is unresolved, this site says so rather than choosing an answer. The binding amount is the one on your own notice.

Every figure carries its instrument, its article or annex row, and its effective period.
